Enable MCP Search for your help center

Enable MCP Search for a public help center and copy the connector URL that readers and teammates can add to compatible AI assistants.

3 min read

Enable MCP Search to make your public, published help center available to compatible AI assistants through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Once enabled, readers and teammates can connect your help center to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code, and Codex.

MCP Search is read-only. It does not give connected assistants access to private Notiondesk workspace data or management actions.

Before you start

MCP Search requires:

  • A public Notiondesk help center
  • A Notiondesk Pro plan or above
  • Access to the help center settings

Only published, public help center content is exposed through MCP Search.

Enable MCP Search

To enable MCP Search:

  1. Sign in to your Notiondesk dashboard
  1. Select the help center you want to connect
  1. Go to Settings โ†’ General
  1. Find the MCP Search section
  1. Enable MCP Search
  1. Save your changes if required

Copy your connector URL

In the MCP Search section, copy the connector URL provided by Notiondesk.

Each help center has its own connector.

Use that URL when adding the help center to a compatible AI assistant.

Connect your help center to an AI assistant

After enabling MCP Search, you can add the connector to supported AI assistants.

Notiondesk provides setup instructions for:

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude
  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • VS Code
  • Codex

See Add your help center as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor for the full installation flow.

Verify MCP Search

After connecting your help center, ask the AI assistant a question that you know is answered in your published documentation.

For example:

How do I configure automatic translations?

The assistant should search your help center and use the relevant published content to answer.

You can also test a more direct request:

Search the connected help center for information about automatic translations.

What content is available?

MCP Search can expose public, published help center content such as:

  • Articles
  • Collections
  • Changelog entries

Draft, unpublished, or private workspace information is not available through MCP Search.

Enable MCP Search on multiple help centers

MCP Search is configured per help center.

If you manage several help centers, enable MCP Search separately for each one.

Each help center receives its own connector URL.

This lets readers connect only the documentation relevant to a specific product, brand, or audience.

MCP Search and multilingual help centers

If your help center contains published translations, connected AI assistants can use that translated content when answering questions.

You do not need to create a separate MCP Search connection for each language of the same help center.

MCP Search does not allow changes

MCP Search is always read-only.

Connected assistants cannot use it to:

  • Edit articles
  • Create content
  • Trigger syncs
  • Start translations
  • Change settings
  • Access analytics
  • Review private chatbot conversations
  • Delete data

Use Workspace MCP when authorized teammates need access to internal Notiondesk data or supported management actions.

Disable MCP Search

To stop exposing the help center through MCP Search:

  1. Open the help center in Notiondesk
  1. Go to Settings โ†’ General
  1. Find MCP Search
  1. Disable it

The connector stops providing access to the help center through MCP Search.

Troubleshooting

My help center connects but the assistant cannot find an article

Check that the article is:

  • Published
  • Publicly accessible
  • Available in the help center you connected

MCP Search cannot retrieve unpublished or private content.

My help center is private

MCP Search is designed for public help center content.

Use Workspace MCP when authenticated teammates need private access to workspace information.
